Introduction
This Privacy Policy describes how Penso App ("Penso," "we," "us," or "our"), developed by PREMAN LLP, collects, uses, and shares information when you use our note-taking application (the "Service").
We understand that your notes are personal and important. Our commitment is to protect your privacy and provide you with clear choices about your data.
1. Information We Collect
We collect information to provide and improve our Service. The types of information we collect depend on how you use Penso.
Information You Provide Directly
User-Generated Content (Stored Locally)
The app's primary purpose is to allow you to create and manage personal notes. To facilitate this, the app collects and stores the following types of data on your device:
- Notes: Text content of your diary entries.
- Photos & Videos: Any images or videos you add to your notes.
- Audio Recordings: Any audio recordings you capture using the in-app microphone.
This data is stored in the app's local storage on your device and is not collected, transmitted, or stored on our servers.
Account Information
If you choose to create an account, we collect information such as your name, email address, and a password (encrypted). This information is used to identify you, secure your account, and enable syncing of your notes across devices.
Feedback and Support
If you contact us for support or provide feedback, we will collect the information you provide in your communication.
Information We Collect Automatically (Limited for Note-Taking Apps)
- Crash Data:We may collect aggregated, anonymized data about crash reports. This data is used solely for improving the app's functionality and stability and does not identify you personally.
- Diagnostics:Performance data to understand how the app is functioning and to optimize it. Also tracks users' activities and behaviors to improve service.
We do NOT collect:
- Location data (unless specifically enabled by you for a feature that requires it, which will be clearly communicated and opt-in).
- Sensitive personal information like race, religion, sexual orientation, or health data unless explicitly provided by you within your notes, in which case it is treated as your private notes content and not used for any other purpose.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
- To Provide and Maintain the Service: To allow you to create, store, retrieve, and manage your notes. This includes facilitating both offline functionality and backup/sync services.
- To Ensure Security and Prevent Abuse: To protect your data, detect and prevent fraud, and maintain the integrity of our Service.
- To Communicate with You: To send you important updates about the app, service changes, or respond to your support inquiries.
- For Legal Reasons: To comply with applicable laws, regulations, legal processes, or enforceable governmental requests.
We will NEVER sell your personal information or your notes content to third parties.
3. Offline Functionality & Data Storage
Penso Notes is designed to offer robust offline functionality. This means:
- Local Storage:Your notes content is primarily stored locally on your device, allowing you to create, edit, and access your notes even without an internet connection. This data is protected by your device's security features.
- Encryption: Your locally stored data and personal notes are stored with Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) within your device safely.
4. Google User Data
Penso Notes offers optional integrations with Google Calendar and Google Drive. These integrations are only activated when you sign in with your Google account and explicitly grant permission. This section explains what Google user data we access, how we use it, and how you can control it.
Google Calendar
Data accessed: If you connect Google Calendar, Penso Notes accesses events on your primary Google Calendar, including event titles, descriptions, start and end times, and recurrence information.
How we use it:
- To display your Google Calendar events alongside your notes within the app.
- To create, update, and delete calendar events and reminders that you set up in Penso Notes, so they appear in your Google Calendar.
Penso Notes only modifies calendar events as a direct result of actions you take in the app. We do not delete or change other events in your calendar on our own.
Google Drive
Data accessed:If you connect Google Drive, Penso Notes only accesses files and folders that the app itself creates in your Google Drive (for example, a Penso Notes backup folder), plus the app's private application data folder. We cannot see or access any other files in your Google Drive.
How we use it:
- To back up your notes, attachments (photos, videos, audio), and backup records to your own Google Drive when you request a backup.
- To restore your notes and attachments from those backups.
- To list and delete backups that you manage from within the app.
Storage and Sharing of Google User Data
- Requests to Google Calendar and Google Drive are made directly from the app on your device. Google Calendar and Google Drive data is not transmitted to or stored on Penso servers.
- Calendar events shown in the app and data restored from backups are stored locally on your device.
- We do not sell Google user data, share it with third parties, or use it for advertising, marketing, or profiling.
- We do not use Google user data to develop, improve, or train generalized artificial intelligence or machine learning models.
- No person at PREMAN LLP reads your Google user data, except with your explicit consent (for example, to help with a support request), when necessary for security purposes, or to comply with applicable law.
Limited Use Disclosure
Penso Notes' use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Revoking Access and Deleting Google User Data
- You can disconnect your Google account from Penso Notes at any time in the app settings.
- You can also revoke Penso Notes' access at any time from your Google Account permissions page.
- Backups stored in your Google Drive belong to you. You can delete them from within Penso Notes or directly from Google Drive.
- Calendar data stored locally in the app is removed when you delete it in the app, sign out, or uninstall the app. Events in your Google Calendar remain under your control in Google Calendar.

Third-Party Services Integrations
Penso Notes may offer integrations with third-party services to enhance your experience. These may include:
- Cloud Storage Providers (e.g., Google Drive, Dropbox): If you choose to link Penso with these services for additional backup or export, your notes content will be transferred to these third-party platforms. Your use of these services will be governed by their respective privacy policies and terms of service. We do not control the data practices of these third parties. See Section 4 for details on how we handle Google user data.
- 3rd Party Tools: If Penso Notes utilizes an external service for features like voice-to-text, audio processing, or handwriting recognition, search and AI models — data related to that specific feature (e.g., your audio recording, image of handwriting) may be sent to that third-party provider for processing. This data is typically processed in real-time and not stored by the third party beyond the necessary processing time. We select reputable providers and ensure they adhere to strict data protection standards.
- Other relevant third-party services you might use in the app, e.g., payment processors, crash reporting tools, usage analytics, etc.
We will clearly indicate within the app when you are using a feature that involves third-party service integration and provide options to enable or disable such features.
